Rabat – Benjamin Griveaux, France’s secretary of state at the Ministry for the Economy and Finance, has said that Morocco is the top tourist destination outside Europe for French people travelling abroad, reported Maghreb Arab Press (MAP).

Grivaux told MAP that “Morocco occupies a big part in his heart,” explaining that he invited his compatriots to “go and discover the kingdom, one of the most beautiful countries in Africa.”

Griveaux’s statement was given on the sidelines of the 39th edition of Top Resa tourism fair, which kicked off on Tuesday in Paris.

The French official, who visited Morocco’s pavilion at the fair, was delighted that new offers and destinations were being proposed to tourists visiting Morocco, alongside traditional tours.

Abderrafie Zouiten, the Director General of the Moroccan National Tourist Office, said that Morocco’s pavilion was the first visited by the French official.

“Morocco’s participation level and diversity at the fair is a foretaste of what our country is,” said Zouiten. “With five percent of arrivals from France, our country is the top non-European destination for French people.”

A total of 6.5 million of tourists visited Morocco between January and July in 2017, representing an increase of 8 percent over the same period last year.

In August, a press release issued by the Provincial Tourism Council (CPT) showcased that 17,174 French tourists visited Ouarzazate at the end of June 2017, against 13,873 in 2016, an increase of 24 percent.

According to statement issued by The Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Agadir Souss-Massa Daraa earlier this month, 81,290 French tourists visited Agadir in the first seven months of 2017.
