Rabat – Rabat’s judicial police arrested a French-Moroccan man on Friday for driving drunk and identity fraud charges in Rabat, reported Maghreb Arab Press (MAP).

A traffic officer arrested the 36-year-old suspect for a traffic offence, according to a press release issued by General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

After he was stopped, the defendant gave the policeman a counterfeit professional card, containing his picture and identity.

However, after DGSN checked his identity, it was revealed that the defendant was the subject of a formal complaint by the French judicial authorities for having served a seven years of a 10-year prison sentence pronounced by the Paris Court of Cassation for his involvement in a case of international drug trafficking.

An initial investigation conducted by DGSN confirmed the alleged charges of the identity theft and forgery filed against the suspect. The statement said that the defendant acquired the falsified card for “suspicious” purposes.

The suspect was placed in custody for further investigations under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office. Investigations are undergoing in order to arrest other people who might be involved in the case.
