Rabat – Gunshots and panic swept the Anfa district in Casablanca early Tuesday morning after police officers shot a mentally unstable individual identified as threatening citizens’ safety.
After threatening and putting the lives of citizens in “real and serious” danger, the suspect assaulted one of the passers-by in the Oasis district with a knife without an apparent reason, stated the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The sergeant of the Criminal Investigation Department then fired two warning bullets into the air, in order to catch and arrest the “dangerous” suspect.
In spite of the warnings, the suspect proceeded to attack two policemen, wounding them. He then took shelter in the City Foot5 football center located between the Oasis central station and the Techno park, before a police motorcyclist shot him, injuring him in the thigh and stomach.
The suspect was killed by the shots, according to the DGSN.
The wounded civilians and policemen were transported to a hospital to receive the necessary care, and one of them left after being treated for a minor injury.
