Rabat – The Morocco-Portugal High-Level Meeting, which took place in Rabat on December 4 and 5, did not only aim to strengthen business ties between the two countries. It also was a chance to assure cooperation between the Moroccan and Portugal football teams, according to Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa.
During the session, Costa took the opportunity to comment on the 2018 World Cup, which will see the participation of both the Moroccan and Portuguese squads.
Delivering a speech before the Moroccan and Portuguese delegations, Costa said that “the World Cup offers us a new opportunity to operate together.”
Talking about both teams, the prime minister said that “what we have to do is very clear. We need to eliminate our opponents together and reach the final” of the competition, which will take place on July 15.
During the World Cup final draw, which took place on December 1, Morocco was placed in Group B along with Portugal, Spain, and Iran.
After playing against Iran on June 15, the Moroccan team will face Portugal on June 20 and Spain on June 25 in Moscow.
The high-level meeting, which was co-chaired by Costa and Morocco’s Head of Government, Saad Eddine El Othmani, saw the signing of more than 12 cooperation agreements and declarations, including a memorandum of understanding.
