Rabat – The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has made public initial data of a plan to prepare for drinking water shortage emergencies.

The plan provides a strategy to cope with the water deficit recorded in some regions in Morocco during the summer. ONEE hopes to secure the water supply in the country by undertaking a short-term action plan for the 2018 summer.

Forty-two centers will expected to have a water deficit this summer, and the program will reinforce their potable water supply.

In this regard, ONEE is developing new water sources, deepening existing wells, and maintenance existing water sources to allow for more efficient production and distribution.

ONEE will also improve water quality control and sanitation, adapt pumping and drilling power generators, conduct research campaigns, and repair leaks.

These measures will eliminate the water deficit in 10 centers by the end of 2018, 15 centers by 2019, and the remaining 17 centers beyond 2019.

The office is conducting a campaign to raise public awareness about the conservation of drinking water in parallel with opening a Customer Relationship Center. The center will have a dedicated line for ONEE customers to continuously process their complaints and questions related to the billing and consumption of electricity and drinking water.
