The president of the Court of Auditors, Driss Jettou, has presented Head of Government Saad Eddine El Othmani with a list of 44 elected members of local councils who have not submitted a declaration listing their assets.

Jettou requested on Tuesday that El Othmani follow procedure and dismiss the 44 elected members who evaded submitting the mandatory declaration despite previous warnings.

In addition to the 44, Jettou forwarded to El Othmani a list of 23 members who failed to submit their declarations because they had not been notified accordingly.

According to paragraph 6 in article 1 of Law No. 54.06, it is compulsory for senior officials, elected representatives of local councils, and public officials to submit a declaration of their assets.

The Court of Auditors maintained in a statement released online that the 44 had ignored the deadline and warnings asking for the documents within 60 days.

The majority of the unnamed 44 council members operate in the regions of Casablanca-Settat, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Fez-Meknes, Rabat-Sale-Kenitra, and Beni Mellal-Khenifra.

Since the beginning of February, the Moroccan Court of Auditors has been monitoring the wealth and properties of elected officials in the framework of the annual compulsory declaration of assets.
