Taraweeh prayers started tonight in Morocco.
Rabat – King Mohammed VI addressed congratulatory messages to word leaders on the eve of Ramadan. Morocco will celebrate the first day of the holy month on Tuesday, May 7.
In his messages, the monarch extended to the heads of state of Islamic countries his best wishes of health and happiness, and of further progress and prosperity to their peoples.
Moroccans started the first taraweeh prayers today. Taraweeh are extra prayers carried out every night throughout Ramadan.
During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, doing drugs, and engaging in any sexual activity, from dawn to sunset.
In addition to fasting, Ramadan is also a month that brings Muslims closer to God.
After breaking fast or iftar, Muslims, men and women, of all ages head to mosques to perform night prayers, extra prayers performed only during Ramadan.
