Moroccan Cultural Diversity Under the Spotlight at Casa Mediterráneo

Rabat – Morocco will take centre stage at the Casa Mediterráneo event scheduled during the month of Ramadan.

Casa Mediterráneo (the Mediterranean House), a Spanish non-profit institution based in Alicante, aims to foster relations among the countries of the Mediterranean basin.

The event will shed light on the “social and cultural vitality of Morocco” and showcase the “creative capacity of our neighbor from the Maghreb, the new cultural talents and the social and economic changes Morocco is experiencing.”

The event is part of the 6th edition of “Meeting with countries of the Mediterranean” of Casa Mediterráneo. There will also be a music concert where Moroccan virtuoso pianist Marouan Benabdallah will take the stage during two sessions in Alicante and Valencia. Another Moroccan, Hanane Afdili Daoud, a masterclass chef, will honor the event with his unique culinary skills.

In addition to Moroccan cuisine and music, the event will also celebrate Moroccan literature. Topping the list of  Moroccan writers at the event will be Tahar Ben Jelloun, widely considered the most prolific and exported Moroccan writer alive. To give a taste of Moroccan-Spanish literary fusion, there will also be the presentation of the book “Samira en las dos orillas” (Samira Between Two Shores) by Spanish writer Guillermo Rubio.

The agenda of the event will stage a debate with the participation of Moroccan Spanish-speaking writers, as well as a Moroccan-Spanish economic forum, set to convene entrepreneurs from both countries.

But attendance to the event will not be the sole preserve of artists or cultural workers. The event will see the attendance of several important persons outside of the cultural field.Notable guests will include Spain’s current Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (MAUEC), Josep Borrell.
