A French court in Paris sentenced a 37-year-old woman to eight years imprisonment. She will not be eligible for parole until she has served 5 years.
Rabat – A French court sentenced Italian-Moroccan Rajaei Moujahid, tried on charges of forming a gang with terrorist intentions and kidnapping children, to 8 years imprisonment.
The prosecution had demanded six years in prison for the 37-year-old. In 2017, Moujahid went to Syria, where she stayed for nine months with her three children.
According to RT Arabic, the Criminal Court held that the ruling was the “only appropriate punishment” for the woman’s conduct, and her “absolute denial of facts, to the point of denying the evidence of the file.”
The woman traveled to Syria in March 2017 after the deadly armed terrorist attacks in France, accompanied by her 9-year-old daughter and her 7 and 5-year-old sons.
The court pointed out that the woman, who was married at the time, joined a Syrian fighter of the “Ahrar al-Sham” movement, with whom she had maintained a long-distance relationship.
She married the fighter upon her arrival in the province of Idleb in northwestern Syria.
