Marrakech Hosts International Congress for School Effectiveness

Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Said Amzazi, is presiding over the inauguration of the 33rd International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI) in Marrakech, today, January 6.

The international event, lasting until Friday, January 10, is taking place in Africa and in the Arab world for the first time.

More than 1,000 speakers, including policymakers, researchers, civil society leaders, and practitioners from 80 countries will take part in the event. Participants are representing a range of national and international institutions from the field of education.

Attendees are set to discuss education, youth empowerment, school improvement, and career readiness. The conference also aims to cover inclusive education for migrants and refugees, school leadership and improving education for marginalized groups, improving instructional practice, and the role of policymakers, researchers, and practitioners in promoting school change.

The organization of the event is part of the implementation of Royal directives that make education a second national priority, after territorial integrity, according to the education ministry.

The event also aims to push North-South collaboration forward in order to improve education systems in developing countries, empower youth, and promote sustainable development.

The conference is organized by the Moroccan Center for Civic Education, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education and the Regional Council of Marrakech-Safi region.

ICSEI is an annual meeting that aims to promote quality and equality in education. In 2019, the event took place in Stavanger, Norway. Next year, the conference is set to take place in Auckland, New Zealand.
