Rabat – The Moroccan city of Laayoune in Western Sahara is set to host the fifth National Press Forum under the theme “The press enterprise in the Sahara and the implementation of the new development model,” from January 10-12.
The three-day event aims to create an open environment for press and information freedom with an aim to “build a free responsible national press,” according to organizers.
The meeting is designed to highlight the role of the press in society and its contribution to defending and implementing the country’s choices, including the new development model, adds the same source.
The event’s organizers plan to contribute, along with other partners and stakeholders, to the modernization of the press sector through the mobilization of necessary resources.
The sector’s modernization would enable it to fully play its role as a lever of development and contribute to the consolidation of the democratic process, “within the framework of a conscious, responsible, and credible professional practice.”
The forum is set to include several workshops and debates on the situation and challenges of the press industry in Morocco. The organizers will also present awards to the best young reporters among the students of press clubs in the schools of Laayoune.
The Sahara Press and Information Club is organizing the event in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, and the Moroccan Federation of Newspaper Publishers. The National Press Council is also taking part in the organization.
