Rabat – Between January and March 2021, Morocco exported approximately 25.8 million kilograms of vegetables to various companies based in the Spanish city of Almeria.
According to data collected by Hortoinfo — a Spanish fruit and vegetable news portal — Morocco’s exports reached a total value of $37.9 million (MAD 335.6 million) for this year’s first three months, with an average price of $1.47 (MAD 13.05) per kilogram.
Almerian companies’ most sought-after import for the time period was the common bean, also known as the French bean, which made up 30.11% of the exports, or 7.8 million kilograms, with the price averaging at $1.71 (MAD 15.11) per kilogram. In a close second followed Moroccan peppers, 6.8 million kilograms, 26.41% of all fresh produce exports, valued at $0.74 (MAD 6.52) per kilogram.
Third place on the list for Almerian imports of Moroccan produce is tomatoes, with 4.9 million kilograms, representing 19.09% of the imports, with a value of $6.4 million (MAD 57.9 million), priced at an average of $1.47 (MAD 13.02) per kilo.

All other Moroccan exports stood at below 10% of Almerian imports, Zucchinis taking fourth place, with 2.3 million kilograms, and cucumbers taking fifth place, with 1.4 million kilograms.
Moroccan watermelons, which have been recently outperforming Almerian exports to much of Western Europe, reached only 77.4 thousand kilograms, at the price of $1.28 (MAD 11.31) per kilogram.
Other produce which have not been listed by the news portal make up 6.67% of all Moroccan exports to Almeria. With 1.7 million kilograms delivered, they represent a value of $7.5 million (MAD 66.4 million) and the highest price per kilogram value, which stands at $4.36 (MAD 38.59). Most likely, the high price to volume ratio means that most other exports were high-value produce, like Moroccan berries.
According to Hortidaily, Almería and Granada combined supply more than 47% of the Spanish market and approximately 50% of the European markets.
