Rabat – Morocco is stretching its lockdown easing to re-open more public spaces starting today, June 1.
On Monday, the government decided to adopt a battery of measures following positive indicators on the epidemiological situation in Morocco.
The new lockdown easing includes the authorization of gatherings and activities in closed spaces for less than 50 people.
Morocco also allows gatherings and activities in open spaces for less than 100 people. Organizers have to obtain permission from local authorities in case of exceeding this number.
The new measures also include the increase in reception capacity of public transport (75%).
Under the new lockdown easing, the government is allowing movie theaters, cultural centers, libraries, museums, as well as theaters to re-open. Reception capacity should not exceed 50%, the government said.
The government also allowed public wedding courts to operate at 50% of their reception capacity.
The measures also include allowing public swimming pools to operate, receiving 50% of their capacity.
People are also allowed to go to beaches as long as they follow physical distancing regulations.
The government urges all citizens to continue to abide by all preventive measures to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Morocco remains under a state of emergency, allowing authorities to swiftly take proactive measures in case the country’s epidemiological situation deteriorates.
Morocco introduced the state of emergency in March 2020 with a total closure of borders and shut down of public spaces.
Ahead of adopting the new measures, Morocco also announced that the curfew will start at 11 p.m. instead of 8 p.m.
Morocco has also decided to gradually re-open all mosques across the country.
