Rabat – The Moroccan Center for Development Initiatives (CMID) announced on Thursday the dates of the second edition of the Rabat-Comedy International Film Festival. The festival will take place from June 12 to 26 in digital format, given the restrictions linked to the coronavirus pandemic.

The organization of the festival is an initiative of the Moroccan Center for Development Initiatives (CMID), a social entrepreneurship center founded in 2016 by a group of professionals. The center set its primary objective the promotion of entrepreneurship in various fields – cultural, social or ecological – in Morocco.

The center organizing the Rabat-Comedy International Film Festival, describes it as a major cultural project. “The center hopes the festival will bring together national and international cinema professionals and that it will create value for the city of Rabat, and its inhabitants,” says the center.

During the 2nd edition of the Rabat-Comedy International Film Festival, all films, conferences and interviews will be available on the festival’s digital platform in a “Videos On Demand” format. This means that, during the period of the festival, viewers can access the films any time.

The closing ceremony to announce the winners will be broadcast live on Zoom and Facebook on Saturday 26th at 8:00 PM local time.

This year’s official selection groups directors and filmmakers from different countries spanning four continents. The selection includes both short films and feature films in its line up.

The first edition of the Rabat-Comedy International Film Festival was held in 2019.

The Jury Prize was won by Dutch filmmaker Patrick Carelsz for his film DEBT, while the Grand Prize was awarded to the film INMADUROS by Jorge Ponce Betti from Argentina.

The accolades awarded in the festival also include a prize for best male role, best female role, as well as a special mention.

Due to the pandemic, organizers for many artistic and cultural events had to resort to the digitization of their events. Despite the obvious difference in experience, many virtual events proved to be quite successful and made virtual events part of the new normal.
