Rabat – A delegation of Arab ambassadors gathered in Rabat before traveling to Morocco’s Dakhla on Thursday to explore economic assets in the city.
The Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council organized the visit in cooperation with the Diplomatic Foundation.
The delegation included the ambassadors of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Yemen.
The members of the delegation held a meeting with the president of the regional council of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Khattat Yanja, state media reported.
During the meeting, diplomats discussed investment opportunities and visited major projects completed in the region, including many others currently underway.
The ambassadors also visited the local industrial units specializing in the conservation of pelagic fish, such as sardines and tuna.
Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Morocco, Abdullah bin Al Ghurairi, emphasized the importance of the visit, saying that the event allowed the diplomatic delegation to learn about investment opportunities in the region.
He said he was impressed by the completion of major projects in “record time.”
“This trip is an opportunity to learn about current and future projects in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, able to contribute to the creation of more employment opportunities,” he added.
Abdelati Habek, the president of the Diplomatic Foundation, said that the visit is part of the initiatives that seek to inform ambassadors and foreign delegations in Rabat of the development southern provinces are experiencing.
“This trip offers Arab diplomats the opportunity to see firsthand the socio-economic development in the region of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, as well as to present the main lines and fruits of the development model in southern provinces of the kingdom,” he said.
The visiting delegation is part of the countries that continuously reiterated support for Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Jordan, whose ambassador was among the visiting delegation, opened a consulate general in Morocco’s Laayoune in November 2020.
The consulate general’s opening reflects the country’s unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces.
