Rabat – The Mohammed VI Foundation for African Ulemas (islamic scholars) inaugurated on Saturday a new branch in Dakar, Senegal.
During the inauguration, the Secretary General of the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Oulemas, Mohammed Rifki, stressed the importance of this new facility made available to members of the Senegalese section of the foundation.
He highlighted the commitment of the president and all members of the branch to implementing the objectives of the foundation and stressed the need to strengthen the historic ties linking Morocco to Senegal.
Mohamed Al Qoraichi Ibrahim Niasse, a senior member of the Higher Council of the Mohammed VI Foundation and Vice President of the Senegalese branch of the foundation, expressed the gratitude of the Ulemas of Senegal to King Mohammed. He argued that the opening of the foundation in Senegal embodies the depth of the cultural ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Muslim community of Senegal.
The Moroccan ambassador in Dakar, Taleb Berrada, was also present during the event.
For his part, the Moroccan diplomat spoke of the impact this new facility will have on the dissemination of the values of tolerance and coexistence preached by Islam.
Abdellatif El Begdouri Achqari, the foundation’s head of mission, stressed that the headquarters of the Senegalese section represents a new link in the centuries-long relations between Morocco and Senegal. He described the inauguration of the new facility as an expansion of “ the deep ties that have always existed between the Alaouites and religious families of the brotherly African country.”
The Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema is an islamic religious institution seeking to prevent radicalization and fight sectarianism within Islam.
The foundation’s goal is to unite and coordinate the efforts of Muslim theologians from Morocco and other African countries to consolidate Islamic values of tolerance and critical exploration of religious texts.
The foundation also aims to facilitate intellectual, scientific and cultural action by bringing together Muslim theologians from around the world to encourage the establishment of religious, scientific and cultural centers and working towards the revitalization of a common African, Islamic cultural heritage.
