Rabat – An autistic young man, Muhammad Nour, received his baccalaureate degree in physics with high grades, reflecting Morocco’s recent efforts to secure education for some of society’s most vulnerable.
Moroccan advocate for disabled persons and elected representative of Morocco’s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), Soumia Amrani, shared the news on Facebook.
Amrani also noted that Said Amzazi, Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, “made a promise and fulfilled it,” referring to Morocco’s latest efforts to make education more inclusive.
Nuor’s distinguished grades and his graduation are “evidence that the right to upbringing and inclusive education together are required to transcend individuals to turn into a pride for the nation,” said Amrani on Facebook.
Earlier in the year, the Ministry of Education launched an initiative of free support courses to assist students who are struggling with achieving basic academic prerequisites to be able to go on with their studies.

Morocco’s draft decree N 2.20.472 on educational support courses urges the country’s various educational civil society associations to provide appropriate support courses for struggling students, “under the terms and conditions provided for under the partnership agreement.”
Most of Morocco’s educational reforms in the last couple of years fall under the 51-17 framework-law, which the Moroccan parliament approved in August 2019. It has laid down the foundations for the government’s 2015-2030 “strategic plan” of reforming Morocco’s national education system.
The framework-law will see the recruitment and training of 200,000 new teachers, as well as governmental support to strengthen rural and low-income area’s educational systems in order to ensure “equal opportunities for everyone.”
“With your success, you ambitious young man, you contributed to paving the way for hundreds, if not thousands, of students with autism to exercise their right to inclusive education” concluded Amrani’s Facebook post.
