Morocco’s Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research Saaid Amzazi chaired the national meeting regarding “Sports champions at the service of school and university sports,” under the slogan “inspiring generations” on June 23.
According to the minister, the choice of the slogan seeks to “confirm that the athletes serve as a symbol and role model, not only for the youth of the country, but for generations of young people around the world.”
“They also help to promote peace and tolerance among countries and societies,” added the minister.
The Ministry of Education organized the event in collaboration with the Moroccan Sports Ambassadors Association, the Royal Moroccan Federation for School Sports, and the Royal Moroccan Federation for University Sports (FRMSU) to celebrate the athletes that excelled in both school and university championships across different sports disciplines.
Through the meeting, the ministry aims to promote school and university sports due to its full awareness of its importance in forming the younger generations through providing them with sports knowledge and competencies.
The meeting also comes in response to the desire that the sports champions have expressed in contributing to the advancement of school and university sports.
“School and university sports is a fundamental driver to improve academic achievement,” the Minister said in a statement to the press.“
“We have launched several programs to promote sports practice; the first is increasing the practice of sports since primary school through the establishment of sports centers, and the second is the Sports Education Program,” he added.
Amzazi also stressed the importance of sports in “constructing tomorrow’s citizens, protecting health, and learning the ideals of citizenship and tolerance.”
Amjad Program
The Ministry took advantage of the meeting to launch the “Amjad Program” in collaboration with Moroccan Sports Ambassadors Association.
The core objective of the program is to assist and guide student-athletes through their academic and sporting paths, as well as to search for institutions and bodies that support the advancement of school and university sports.
The meeting saw also the attendance of the Delegate Minister In Charge of Higher Education and Scientific Research Driss Ouaouicha and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Othman El Ferdaous who insisted that “The level of coordination between the royal federations and sports federations must be at a high level to generalize the school and university sports experience.”
Additionally, the event was an opportunity to celebrate earners of the highest grades in the 2021 baccalaureate exam.
In a statement to Morocco World News (MWN), Nada Boukhris, who obtained the first mark in the baccalaureate exam in the region of Souss-Massa, expressed her “joy and satisfaction” for what she achieved.
In this year’s national exam, the success rate stands at 68,43%, an increase of 5.35% compared to the previous session, according to data from the Ministry of Education.
