The Moroccan people join the Royal Family in celebration of the 51st birthday of Prince Moulay Rachid, this Sunday.
The younger brother of King Mohammed VI, Moulay Rachid is second in the line of succession to the Moroccan throne, after Crown Prince Moulay Hassan, the King’s son.
Born on June 20, 1970, in Rabat, Prince Moulay Rachid obtained a degree in public law in May 1993, and a degree in comparative law at the Faculty of legal and economic sciences and social services in Rabat.
Three years later, the prince obtained his second certificate of higher studies in International Relations in June 1996.
The prince then went on to defend a doctoral thesis in Law on “The Organization of the Islamic Conference: study of a specific international organization,” at the University Montesquieu-Bordeaux IV, on May 18, 2001.
Prince Moulay Rachid married Oum Kalthum Boufares on June 15, 2014; the couple welcomed their first child, Moulay Ahmed, on June 23, 2016.
From a young age, Prince Moulay Rachid has been interested in cultural, social and sporting activities. He is the president of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Hunting Gun Shooting (FRMTAC), and the Foundation of the Marrakech International Film Festival.
In January 2018, the prince also took over the presidency of the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (FRMG).
Prince Moulay Rachid is engaged in various social actions, and takes part in various Royal activities presiding over official events, both in Morocco and abroad.
He also represents King Mohammed VI in important national and international events.
Due to the pandemic, Moroccans will not take part in any public celebrations of the prince’s birthday. Still, Morocco wishes Prince Moulay Rachid a joyous birthday and a happy year ahead.
