Morocco Expects Positive Outcomes From Recent Lockdown Measures

Rabat – The Ministry of Health is expecting a positive outcome following Morocco’s decision to announce new lockdown measures to stem the spread of COVID-19.

Mourad Mrabet, the coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations at the ministry, predicts positive results within two weeks from the recent preventive measures.

The health official reassured citizens that Morocco’s health system remains highly resilient despite the epidemiological situation.

Mrabet emphasized that if the number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase, the government will be compelled to take more drastic measures to prevent the epidemiological situation from deteriorating further.

He attributed the rise of COVID-19 cases to the non-compliance of the population regarding the preventive measures.

“Morocco is facing a new wave of the spread of SARS-coV-2, which is in its fifth week,” Mrabet said.

The health official warned that the rapid spread of the virus could jeopardize all progress made by Morocco in the fight against the pandemic, pointing out that the number of cases stands at over 4,000 daily.

Mrabet repeatedly urged all citizens to continue full commitment and strict compliance with all preventive measures, including physical distancing, general hygiene regulations, and wearing of face masks correctly.

With regards to the vaccination campaign, the health official emphasized that the operation is continuing at a regular pace.

Mrabet encouraged all citizens to respect the date of their vaccination and disregard false information pertaining to the vaccine’s effectiveness.

To date, Morocco fully vaccinated 9, 864, 912 people.

About 12,061,160 people received the first dose of the vaccine.

The total number of COVID-19 cases reached 581,477, including 546,426 recoveries, and 9,611 deaths.
