Casablanca – Barcelona defeated Egyptian champions Al Ahly 2-1 at Spotify Camp Nou to claim the Joan Gamper Trophy, with both sides producing an entertaining contest.
Barcelona took the lead in the 29th minute through Hamza Abdelkarim, who found the net against his former club.
The forward chose not to celebrate the goal out of respect for Al Ahly.
The hosts doubled their advantage shortly before halftime when Raphinha converted a penalty in the 44th minute.
The Brazilian sent his effort to the right of goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir, who anticipated the direction correctly but could not keep the ball out.
Al Ahly responded quickly after the break, reducing the deficit in the 51st minute through Ahmed Sayed Zizo.
The Egyptian forward produced a composed left-footed finish to give the African champions renewed hope of completing a comeback.
The visitors continued to push for an equalizer as the match entered its final stages, while Barcelona looked to protect their advantage.
Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy then produced one of the match’s standout moments in the 90th minute, denying Anthony Gordon from the penalty spot with an impressive save.
Despite the late intervention, Barcelona held on to secure a 2-1 victory and lift the Joan Gamper Trophy.
The match marked a significant occasion for Al Ahly, who became the first Arab and African club to participate in Barcelona’s traditional preseason tournament.
