Denver – Morocco’s government has announced that it will be extending its national vaccination campaign against COVID-19 to all residents and citizens between the ages of 35 and 39. Morocco’s Ministry of Health released a statement on July 9 to announce it is further extending the age groups eligible for vaccination within the country.
With a little over 25% of the country fully vaccinated, the North African country is regarded as one of the leaders in the African fight against the pandemic.
Morocco has currently vaccinated over 9 million people with their first jab, and 10.3 million with their both vaccinations. Over the past 24 hours, Morocco recorded 1,250 new infections as new infections are once again rising. Despite the increase in cases, Moroccan hospitals currently have less than 9% of intensive care beds occupied with COVID-19 related cases.
Morocco currently has 7,360 active cases, including 279 severe cases that require hospitalization and breathing support. Metropole Casablanca, the economic heart of Morocco and home to 3.36 million people, continues to be the most impacted city with 555 new cases recorded over the past 24 hours.
Several different vaccine types are currently approved for usage in Morocco. These include the western-made Astrazeneca vaccine, the Sputnik V vaccine from Russia, and the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine. Morocco also recently announced it will be working in conjunction with Chinese health officials to begin domestic production of vaccines as well.
