Rabat – The British mining company Altus has discovered high-grade copper and silver in its Azrar, Izougza, and Tata projects in Morocco,
The projects cover a total of 252 square kilometers and are all located in Morocco’s Anti-Atlas mountain range. Altus holds the rights for the projects through its subsidiary, Alterian Resources Limited.
The exploration mission for the Azrar project has shown positive results with up to 3.41% copper and 56 grams per tonne of silver, while the Izougza project yielded 8.37% copper, and the Tata project recovered up to 0.24% copper in its sediments, according to a press release.
The company also notes the fact that the projects are located within well-established “current and historic” copper and silver mining districts of Morocco. With the company’s ongoing exploration in its Amsa, Jafra, and Tiddas projects, Altus now holds 10 “highly prospective” projects across Morocco, spanning 675 square kilometers.
“These are excellent results from first pass prospecting of our recently granted Azrar, Izougza and Tata projects,” said Steven Poulton, Chief Executive of Altus.
Lauding the results of the exploration, Poulton added that “Perhaps more significantly is the confirmation of prospective geological formations for stratiform sediment-hosted deposits, as well as contact breccias, along with the presence of multiple historic artisanal workings.”
The Moroccan government awarded all three projects to Altus in March 2021 following a competitive bidding process. The acquisition doubled Altus’ landholdings in Morocco, expanding a portfolio of exploration projects with significant potential for base and precious metals in Morocco.
Altus Strategies was founded in 2007, serving as a British exploration project generator with a focus on the African continent. The company discovers, develops, and extracts natural resources such as gold, copper, iron, zinc and silver across Africa, including its numerous projects in Morocco, Ethiopia, Cameroon, and Liberia.
