Rabat – According to a tweet on Thursday, the US Embassy in Morocco reassured K-1 visa applicants that it would expedite the processing of all fiance visa requests “as soon as possible.”

The embassy stated, “We are committed to reducing the backlog of immigrant and fiance visa applicants waiting for appointments, while keeping our staff and applicants safe.”

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>We are committed to reducing the backlog of immigrant and fiancé visa applicants waiting for appointments, while keeping our staff and applicants safe. IV and K fiancé visa applicants remain high priorities. We are working to schedule all appointments as soon as possible. <a href=”https://t.co/GO8mzUT5mC”>pic.twitter.com/GO8mzUT5mC</a></p>&mdash; U.S. Embassy Morocco (@USEmbMorocco) <a href=”https://twitter.com/USEmbMorocco/status/1410539975091892229?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”>July 1, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src=”https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js” charset=”utf-8″></script>

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices temporarily ceased processing visa applications. According to Boundless, the ban on immigration to the US due to COVID-19 halted approximately 360,000 visas.

On August 31, the USCIS released a report stating, “as it becomes safe to resume more consular operations at each U.S. mission, posts are authorized to give K visa cases high priority.”

However, many Moroccans in particular have taken to social media to express their displeasure over the lengthy K-1 visa approval process.

The embassy’s tweet added that, “IV and K fiancé visa applicants remain high priorities. We are working to schedule all appointments as soon as possible.”

The timeline of the process is indefinite as applicants are required to submit multiple forms and await the USCIS to relay the request to the local consulate or embassy.

“Some cases are delayed because applicants do not follow instructions carefully or supply incomplete information,” notes the embassy’s K-1 visa FAQ page.

Once the embassy approves the K-1 visa application, the US citizen and fiance are required to get married in the US within 90 days, otherwise the couple will be in violation of US immigration law.
