Agadir – Morocco has launched a major national initiative, “Rally AI Future Lab,” aimed at accelerating the development of artificial intelligence and strengthening the country’s technological sovereignty, as part of broader efforts to position itself among emerging global AI players.
The Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform announced the program, saying it seeks to structure and accelerate Morocco’s growing AI ecosystem while supporting the country’s broader digital transformation goals.
In a statement, the ministry described the “Rally AI Future Lab” as “a large-scale national initiative aimed at structuring and accelerating Morocco’s momentum in artificial intelligence.”
The initiative is part of the country’s broader “AI Made in Morocco” strategy and follows the national vision to promote innovation, digital development, and human capital enhancement.
According to the ministry, the program aims to make artificial intelligence “a lever for technological sovereignty, economic competitiveness and the transformation of public action.”
The ministry said the initiative seeks to “federate talents, expertise and public, private, academic and international ecosystems around concrete solutions, designed in Morocco and adapted to the real needs of citizens, the administration and the national economy.”
The first edition of the “Rally AI Future Lab” will take place in Merzouga, in the Draa-Tafilalet region, from June 16 to 20.
The ministry said the initiative has an “evolving ambition of up to 5,000 participants divided into several cohorts across the country,” while the inaugural edition will bring together around 1,000 researchers, engineers, students, entrepreneurs, and developers.
Participants will take part in what the ministry described as “an intensive program combining training, experimentation, prototyping and support” over five days.
The goal is to “promote the emergence of high-impact projects” in strategic sectors including “modernization of public services, administrative efficiency, digital inclusion and economic competitiveness.”
The new initiative also builds on the momentum generated by the RamadanIA Hackathon, which was organized across Morocco’s twelve regions.
The ministry noted that the hackathon mobilized more than 700 participants and about fifty mentors before concluding with a national final in Rabat that gathered nearly 170 selected talents.
“Through ‘Rally IA Future Lab’, the Ministry intends to install a sustainable architecture of innovation, based on skills development, experimentation and the gradual transition of ideas to operational solutions,” the statement said.
The ministry concluded by describing the initiative as part of Morocco’s broader technological ambitions, saying that “Morocco confirms its desire to build real technological sovereignty, accelerate local innovation and consolidate its place among the emerging players in artificial intelligence on an international scale.”
