Morocco Announces Squad To Face Sudan, Guinea for World Cup Qualifiers

Rabat – Atlas Lions’ coach, Vahid Halilhodzic, released today, August 26, the official squad list for the two upcoming matches against Sudan and Guinea in the first and second round of the World Cup qualifiers.

The first game against Sudan is scheduled to take place on September 2 at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. The Second game against Guinea will commence on September 6 at General Lansana Conte de Nongo in Conakry.

The Moroccan Royal Federation of Football released the complete list of players through its official website and social media platforms.

The list consisting of 24 players, however, curiously failed to include Morocco’s and Chelsea’s wizard Hakim Ziyech.

The group named by the Bosnian coach includes several names that will show up for the first time in Morocco’s squad list. A variety of talent is set to make their national team debut. In defense this includes left-back Souffian El Karouani who plays for Dutch club NEC Nijmegen and right-back Sofiane Alakouch of  French club FC Metz.

In midfield, two talented youngsters, midfielders Imran Louza of  English club Watford  and Youssef Maleh of Italian club ACF Fiorentina could be featured in the coming matches.

Up front, forward Ryan Mmaee could see his debut in the national team after featuring in the first team of Hungarian club Ferencvaros.

The list also saw the return of Raja Casablanca’s goalkeeper Anas Zniti, who recently led his team to win the Mohammed VI Champions Cup, and Ligue 1 club Angers SCO attacking midfield Sofiane Boufal.

Goalkeepers:

Yassine Bounou (Sevilla FC/Spain); Monir El Kajoui (Hatayspor/Turkey); and Anas Zniti (Raja Casablanca).

Defenders:

Achraf Hakimi (PSG/France); Adam Masina (Watford/ENG); Ghanes Saiss (Wolverhampton/ENG); Jawad El Yamiq (Real Valladolid/Spain); Nayed Aguerd (Rennes/FRA); Sofian Chakla (Getafe/Spain); Sofiane Alakouch (FC Metz/France); Souffian El Karouani (NEC Nijmegen/Netherlands).

Midfielders:

Adel Taarabt (Benfica/POR); Aymen Barkok (Eintracht Frankfurt/GER); Ilyas Chair (Queens Park Rangers/ ENG); Selim Amallah (Standard Liege/BEL); Sofyan Amrabat and Youssef Maleh (Fiorentina/ITA); Imran Louza (Watford/ENg);

Forwards:

Achraf Bencharki (Zamalek SC); Munir El Haddadi (Sevilla FC/Spain); Sofiane Boufal (Angers SCO/FRA); Yousef En-Nesyri (Sevilla FC/Spain); Ryan Mmaee (Ferencvaros/Hungary); Zakaria Aboukhlal (AZ Alkmaar/ Netherlands).
