Rabat –  Former Istiqlal leader and diplomat Mohamed Faraj Doukkali died this Monday August 30, in Rabat.

Doukkali died at the age of 85, and he was buried in the afternoon of the same day.

Doukkali held several positions of responsibility during his diplomatic career, including ambassador of Morocco to Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, Lebanon, and the Sultanate of Oman.

During his rich political career, the deceased was one of the leaders of the Istiqlal Party. He was a member of the party’s National Council and Central Committee for several mandates.

The diplomat was a fierce defender of the Palestinian cause, defending Palestians’ right to a state in historical Palestine on behalf of King Mohammed IV while performing his diplomatic duties in the Middle East.

Doukkali oversaw Moroccan aid deliveries to Gaza, and was an important representative of Moroccan interests in the MENA region.
