Rabat – More than 4,500 observers have received approval from the Special Commission for the Accreditation of Election Observers to participate in the upcoming elections scheduled for September.
“During its six meetings, the commission approved more than 4,500 observers from Moroccan NGOs, including the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) with more than 500 observers, who will be dispatched over the 12 regions of the Kingdom”, announced Amina Bouayach, President of CNDH at the sixth and final meeting of the Special Commission held on Wednesday in Rabat.
In a press statement, Bouayach said that about 70 international observers representing 14 international NGOs and two international parliaments will visit Morocco to conduct a neutral and independent observation of the elections, adding that the commission’s sixth meeting would be the last one before the start of the electoral campaign.
According to a statement from The Secretary-General of the CNDH, Mounir Bensalah,, the Commission approved more than 44 national NGOs, including the CNDH and several international NGOs for the observation operation after the last meeting.
Bensalah pointed out that this process will allow the mobilization of a group of observers throughout Moroccan territory, in order to conduct a “neutral and independent observation of the elections that will be held next September.”
Legal conditions and standards that enable the concerned bodies and associations to exercise an independent and impartial observation of the next electoral benefits were highlighted during the meeting.
The special commission is made up of four members representing the government authorities responsible for Justice, the Interior, Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Communication, a representative of the Ministerial Delegation for Human Rights, a representative of the National Authority for Probity, Prevention and Fight against Corruption, and five representatives of civil society associations represented within the CNDH.
