Rabat – President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, has announced that the Grand Stade Hassan II in Benslimane, near Casablanca, will be ready in early 2028, expressing confidence in its chances of hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup final.
Speaking during an interview on 2M’s “Sa’at Al Saraha” (Hour of Frankness) program on Wednesday, October 28, Lekjaa highlighted the stadium’s large capacity, modern design, and compliance with international safety and sustainability standards.
According to Lekjaa, seating capacity is among the main factors FIFA considers when selecting a venue for the World Cup final.
The Hassan II Stadium is expected to become one of the largest football stadiums in the world, strengthening Morocco’s bid to host the tournament’s most important match.
However, FIFA has yet to announce the venue for the 2030 World Cup final. Morocco will co-host the tournament with Spain and Portugal.
The stadium’s expected completion in early 2028 will give organizers approximately two years to test the venue and assess its readiness ahead of the competition.
The facility is also expected to host several sporting events and test competitions before the World Cup. These events will allow organizers to evaluate its technical and logistical operations and ensure that it meets FIFA’s requirements.
Morocco prepares for the 2030 World Cup
Lekjaa also discussed Morocco’s broader preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will mark 100 years since the inaugural tournament in Uruguay in 1930.
The FRMF president described the competition as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Africa and Europe through a joint sporting event.
Morocco’s preparations extend beyond stadium construction, with major infrastructure projects expected to improve transportation and mobility in host cities.
In the Casablanca region, the Hassan II Stadium project forms part of a wider development plan supported by investments in high-speed rail connections, railway networks, and tramway services.
These projects aim to improve access to the stadium while contributing to the region’s long-term urban and economic development.
Morocco hopes to use the tournament to attract investment and create lasting benefits for future generations.
With construction scheduled for completion in early 2028, the Hassan II Stadium will be a central part of the country’s preparations as it seeks to host the 2030 World Cup final.
