Rabat – Moroccan international and Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C central defender Romain Saiss has been linked with a move to Spain’s Valencia CF.
The Moroccan international does not seem to be part of Wolverhampton’s new head coach’s plans, with Bruno Lage said to be pushing the English club to sign Valencia striker and Portuguese star Gonçalo Guedes.
According to Spanish media, Wolves have offered Romain Saiss to Valencia in the hopes of reaching an agreement with the Spanish club to bring Goncalo Guedes’ transfer fees down.
Saiss, who previously played for French club SCO Angers, joined the Wolves in 2016 for a six-year contract and a €4 million transfer fee. Since then, the Moroccan center-back has earned himself some solid reputation in English football. He was one of the main players for Wolves’ former head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, who promoted the team to the Premier League in 2018.
The Bourg-de-Péage-born player has made 176 appearances for the club; scored twelve, and provided three assists to his teammates in all competitions.
Romain Saiss is also considered a key player for Morocco’s national team since 2017, when Morocco’s former head coach Herve Renard put faith in him in central defense alongside Medhi Benatia. He was part of Morocco’s squad for the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 CAN.
Despite rumors linking him with a move, Saiss has started with his team in the first two games of the running football season against Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively. However, in search of a solution to its goal-scoring woes, the Wolves might sell the Moroccan defender to sign Valencia’s striker.
It remains to be seen whether Saiss, whose contract with the Wolves runs until June 2022, will accept the deal.
