Rabat – Felipe VI of Spain and Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown-Prince Mohammed bin Salman have sent congratulatory messages to Morocco’s King Mohammed VI to mark the occasion of Youth Day.
King Salman of Saudi Arabia wished King Mohammed VI “constant good health and happiness,” extending wishes for “steady progress and prosperity” to Moroccans and their government. Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, who is the Saudi kingdom’s current deputy prime minister and defense minister, sent a separate cable to congratulate King Muhammad VI.
King Felipe VI of Spain wrote that “the Queen joins me in wishing you wholeheartedly a very happy birthday in the company of your family,” in a message that reaffirmed the Spanish monarch’s “highest personal consideration and esteem.”
The royal messages follow a national address by King Mohammed VI to mark the 68th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and People. Morocco’s monarch delivered a combative speech addressed to the country’s unnamed enemies, while expressing his optimism that Spanish-Moroccan relations would soon see a thawing.
After a year of diplomatic crises and heightened tensions with Spain, Morocco’s monarch announced that he saw an upcoming resolution to the bilateral dispute.
Morocco’s king stated that “with a feeling of optimism, I sincerely look forward to continuing to work with the Spanish government and with the Spanish Prime Minister, His Excellency Mr. Pedro Sanchez, to usher in a new, unprecedented phase in the relations between the two countries, on the basis of trust, transparency, mutual respect and the fulfillment of obligations.”
