Denver – In preparation of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2021 championship in Cameroon, the Confederation of African Football revealed the results of its tournament draw on Tuesday.
AFCON is the main international football competition on the African continent, and 52 countries participated in qualifier rounds leading up to this year’s competition. Morocco, which holds one AFCON championship win, qualified alongside 23 other national teams for this year’s tournament.
During Tuesday’s draw in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon, Morocco’s national team was placed in Group C alongside Ghana, Comoros, and Gabon. The tournament is set to last from January 9, 2022 to February 6.
Cameroon will host the 2021 AFCON competition, and five cities across the country were announced as venues for the matches. The cities include Douala, Yaounde, Bafoussam, Garoua, and Limbe-Buea.
The group draw was attended by CAF president Dr. Patrice Motsepe, as well as COCAN president and Cameroonian Minister of Sports Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.
With notable players like Achraf Hakimi, Munir El Haddadi, Hakim Ziyech, and Yassine Bono, among others, Morocco is one of Africa’s best teams on paper.
Led by head coach Vahid Halilhodzic, the Moroccan team will be looking to put an end to decades of disappointing performances and might-have-beens on the continental stage.
