Morocco’s Royal Air Maroc recently announced new measures to ensure the safety of travelers.
The national airline recommended passengers on international flights to arrive at the airport four hours earlier than scheduled.
The new measure is due to sanitary measures and social distancing, Royal Air Maroc announced.
Royal Air Maroc warns travelers about the strict health procedures, including the mandatory wearing of face masks while aboard the aircraft, and to maintain social distance.
Morocco has been in a state of emergency since March 2020. Under the measure, Morocco is stepping up efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19 and contain its viral variants.
Morocco’s borders continue to remain partially closed, and travelers will need to provide certain requirements to enter the country, such as a negative pcr test, a vaccination card, or a hotel booking for home quarantine if required.
Travelers coming to Morocco by air are classified by specific categories. Morocco has classified countries into list A and list B categories. Travelers from list A are free to enter and exit the country at their will, provided they present a negative pcr test result, or show proof of vaccination. Passengers from list B will need to show proof of vaccination, or they will be subject to a 10-day hotel quarantine upon arrival.
However, as the epidemiological situation improved, Morocco began launching special flights on June 15. Travelers will need to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated, with the second dose completed two weeks prior to the travel date, or a negative PCR test before boarding a flight or ferry to the country,
Although flights to and from the country continue to remain operational, the COVID-19 situation continues to worsen due to the unprecedented spike in cases and deaths in the previous weeks.
Over the past few weeks, the number of cases has exceeded 10,000 per day.
The number of deaths has also increased significantly. The North African country reports over 100 cases in 24 hour on a daily basis.
Many health professionals are left frustrated with the situation, calling for tighter restrictions amid the recent surge in cases.
Some health professionals believe that COVID-19 wave will experience a peak.
Health professionals are expecting the cases to reach 25,000 cases and 200 deaths per day.
To date, Morocco recorded 759,456 COVID-19 cases, including 667,230 recoveries, and 11,017 deaths.
