Rabat – French musician Coucou Chloe is suing Fenty, the beauty brand owned by singer Rihanna for using a version of her song that included samples from an Islamic Hadith.
The lawsuit comes following a 2020 scandal after the billionaire pop-star used a version of Coucou Chloe’s song “Doom” in a widely broadcast lingerie show.
The song featured Islamic texts, and Coucou Chloe faced severe backlash once the song was featured in Rihanna’s lingerie show.
Chloe issued a public apology in which the French musician claimed she wasn’t aware of the religious nature of the Arabic-language texts she sampled in her song. Rihanna similarly apologized, describing the use of the song as “irresponsible.”
Chloe is now suing the Fenty brand for $10 million over the severe backlash she received regarding the song she produced. According to news reports, she claims that Rihanna had agreed with her not to use a version of the song that featured the Islamic texts.
The new lawsuit, which was filed anonymously, claims the artist faced a torrent of death threats following the lingerie show mishap. The court document claims Chloe faced a barrage of death threats following Rihanna’s lingerie show, forcing her to go into hiding and causing her depression and anxiety.
The French musician is now asking for $10 million in reparation, claiming that the damages she suffered were due to RIhanna’s company using the wrong version of her song despite her warning.
