Rabat – Morocco is set to celebrate the Islamic New Year on Tuesday, August 10.
The Islamic Affairs Ministry announced the news this evening after religious experts carried out a crescent moon sighting earlier today.
The ministry said that the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic year, will correspond to Tuesday, August 10.
The ministry then extended its good wishes and congratulations to the Moroccan people and the royal family.
Many Arab countries also confirmed Tuesday as the first day of the Islamic new year.
Saudi Arabia confirmed the news on Sunday, and many world leaders have addressed greetings and congratulations to Muslims across the world.
Joe Biden also shared a congratulatory message to the Muslim world on social media.
Biden said he and his wife are extending their “warm wishes” to Muslims celebrating the Islamic New Year and the holy month of Muharram.
He also expressed solidarity in “honoring the universal values of justice, equality, and compassion.”
