Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Health launched the country’s first “smart” vaccination center in the Nouaceur province.

Launched on Wednesday, August 4, Morocco’s first “digital and integrated” vaccination center spans a surface area of approximately 2,200 meters square, and aims to vaccinate between 3,000 and 4,000 people on a daily basis, according to Morocco’s state media.

The new vaccination center, dubbed the Vaccinodrome by local media, is a digital vaccination center, where patients can track their vaccination process, from registration to receipt of their second dose, by using a QR code.

In addition, COVID-19 screening will also be automated, with the ability to pre-screen the patients for the virus, as well as monitoring and analyzing data from daily vaccination progress to provide an overview of the entire process.

The vaccinodrome boasts a completely controlled environment that employs intelligent sensors to monitor vaccine cold chains, general supervision, and management, and to analyze medical, environmental, and logistical data.

Morocco has been praised internationally for the way it has innovated and mobilized against COVID-19. Morocco’s successful pandemic-response can be linked to the country’s rapid industrial mobilization, which saw Morocco’s textile industry reach 5 million facemask production capacity by mid-April, 2020 – less than a month following the country’s initial lockdown.

At the same time, Moroccan engineers from the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University  announced the development of an artificial respirator and an infrared thermometer, both “100% Moroccan.”

“Morocco has embarked on a major digital transformation agenda that has been accelerated by Covid-19, particularly at the level of public administration, where the main challenge has been twofold,” Mohamed Faïical Nebri, the head of strategy, development, cooperation and communication at Morocco’s Digital Development Agency told Oxford Business Group last year.

“On the one hand ensuring the continuity of public services, and, on the other, ensuring remote work for public sector employees and civil servants during lockdown,” Nebri explained.
