Rabat – Moroccan actress Fatima Regragui passed away at 80 years old, early on Monday, August 2. The brother of the deceased confirmed the tragic news.

Fatima Regragui has long been recognized as a prominent figure in Moroccan art, entertainment, and culture.

Director Amin Ensour commented on the passing, through a post on his personal account on Facebook and saying “the great artist Fatima Regragui is in the protection of God, may God’s mercy on her.”

Fans and friends of director Amin Nsour immediately sent their condolences and prayers for the late artist.

Fatima Regragui, as a pioneer in cinematography, television, and theater in Morocco, was one of the first to venture into the industry, before battling health problems that prevented her from continuing.

As a leading actress in Moroccan theater, television, and film, she belongs to a generation of pioneers in the Moroccan acting scene.

In a time when Moroccan men were reluctant to undertake artistic careers, the late Regragui was one of the first Moroccan women to pursue an artistic career.

She played in several cinematographic works that have become iconic to the Moroccan film industry, such as “Goobdye Mother” ( Adieu mère Mohamed Ismaïl, 2008) and “Mirage” (Ahmed Bouanani, 2001).

The late artist’s body is expected to be buried this afternoon, Monday, following afternoon prayers in the capital, Rabat.
