Rabat – Morocco is mourning Princess Lalla Malika, King Mohammed VI’s aunt, who died today, September 28, at the age of 88.
The Ministry of Royal Palaces Honors, and DIstinctions announced the death of the princess this afternoon.
“On this painful occasion, all Moroccan people extend their deepest and sincerest condolences to His Majesty the King, and to all members of the honorable royal family,” the statement said.
The funeral n for Lalla Malika will take place in a private family setting with a very limited attendance as part of the COVID-related restriction measures.
Princess Lalla Malika is the sister of the late King Hassan II and daughter of the late King Mohammed V.
The princess, who served as the president of the Moroccan Red Crescent (CRM), was most known for her contribution to humanitarian initiatives across Morocco.
In 2018, Princess Lalla Malika launched Morocco’s Red Crescent week as part of the country’s commitment to humanitarian activities.
During the ceremony, the King’s aunt donated several pieces of equipment to the Ahmed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Institute, including clothing, wheelchairs, and eyeglasses.
