Rabat – The Foreign Universities Scholarships and Admissions Assistant Agency (FUSAAA) has submitted over 500 scholarship applications to enable Moroccan students to study in China during the session of September 2021, according to the director of the agency Mehdi El Ihsani.
Based in Rabat, FUSAAA is the official online portal for international students to apply for Chinese universities.
FUSAAA’s mission is to identify programs that meet the criteria of students, to guide them through the registration process, and to assist them in obtaining a scholarship that will allow them to finance their studies, their accommodation, and possibly their entire stay in China.
According to the agency, the cost of living in China is cheaper than in other developed countries, making it an attractive destination for Moroccan students, considering one Chinese yuan (RMB) is worth MAD 1.38 ($0.15).
The cost of renting in medium-sized cities in China is 45.86% lower than in Casablanca.
The prices of restaurants in an average city in China are 11.70% lower than those of Casablanca, according to the agency.
Since 2017, the FUSAAA has been providing assistance to Moroccan students to pursue their studies in China, through its many partnerships with Chinese universities.
During a ceremony to celebrate the scholarship recipients in China this week, the FUSAAA expressed its hope to encourage young talents and future leaders of Morocco to explore new opportunities in the Asian country with constant development at all levels, El Ihsani said.
China offers four types of scholarships. These include scholarships granted either by the Chinese government, one of the Chinese provinces, one of the Chinese cities or local universities.
Oumaima Tarib, 18 years old, was one of the scholarship recipients during the event. She explained that the FUSAAA agency granted her a scholarship and gave her the opportunity to continue her studies in one of the best universities in China.
The physics major expressed her desire to continue her studies in computer science, particularly in the field of software engineering and return back to Morocco.
Imane Er-Rachiqy, 19 years old, was also among the recipients. She said she was strongly interested in studying in China, and after attending a Chinese language session, she contacted FUSAAA for the assistance she needed to pursue her dream of studying medicine in China.
