Morocco is expecting thousands of COVID-19 vaccines as part of the COVAX program.

Moroccan television channel 2M reported that the country is slated to receive 650,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and 150,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

With the arrival of this new shipment, Morocco will reach a total of more than 48 million doses of vaccines, including in total 35.5 million doses of China’s Sinopharm, seven million from AstraZeneca, and 3.56 million doses of Pfizer.

Morocco has so far received 2.06 million doses of vaccines as part of the COVAX program, 2M recalled.

COVAX is a global initiative, aiming to secure COVID-19 vaccines for developing countries.

The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization announced the initiative in collaboration with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the Coalition for innovations in the fields, among other partners.

The initiative collaborates with world governments to ensure the availability of vaccines to developing countries to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The COVAX program has enabled more than 100 participating countries to benefit from access to doses of safe and WHO-recognized COVID vaccines.

After launching its vaccination campaign on January 28, Morocco ordered over 60 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to ensure the success of the campaign.

As of September 18, Morocco vaccinated a total population of 17,410,792, while the number of people who received the first dose of the vaccine has reached 20,990,007.
