Rabat – France’s embassy in Rabat has announced that it has acknowledged Morocco’s decision to postpone the start of the school year.
The embassy said that the decision applies to all schools, and therefore the French schools’ network in Morocco will also start the academic year on October 1.
The embassy said that the schools will offer students and their families a distance learning continuity “based on contact activities, revisions of knowledge and methods or upgrades.”
The embassy also called on families to “calmly” welcome the changes, reflecting a “strong desire” to support efforts against COVID-19.
Such measures also seek to guarantee safety of students and their teaching staff.
Morocco decided to postpone the school year to avoid a health deterioration crisis amid a slight improvement following a decrease in COVID-19 cases reported daily.
The Ministry of Education also cited the importance of vaccinating as many students as possible from the 12-17 category group before the start of the academic year.
Morocco seeks to vaccinate 3 million students.
Moroccan health officials are fearing another catastrophe after the months of July and August saw a dramatic spike in the number of cases in Morocco.
COVID-19 cases in Morocco reached over 9,000. Nowadays, Morocco reports between 1,000 and 3,000 COVID-19 cases per day.
