Rabat – Following the approval of a cabinet decision by a Royal Decree, Jumana Ghunaimat is appointed as Jordan’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco.
The Jordan News Agency also reported the Council of Ministers’ approval of Faridoun Hartouqa’s resignation request from his role as the Secretary General of the Jordan Investment Commission (JIC).
Ghunaimat is an influential figure in the Jordanian media landscape having extensive experience in local and regional media such as Al-rai and Al-sijil. She has previously occupied several positions including the Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson.
She is the first woman to be chosen as editor-in-chief of an Arab newspaper in 2012 and known to be a big supporter of women’s rights, their role, and contribution in various fields.
With a degree in Political Science from the University of Jordan, the ambassador has shown constant dedication in its proven area of expertise by serving as a member of the International Women’s Forum, a deputy editor and director of Al Ghad newspaper economic department, and participating as a mentor in international conferences.
To celebrate International Women’s Day in 2016, the European Union Ambassador to Jordan, Andrea Matteo Fontana, praised Ghunaimat for her commitment to empower Arab women.
Fontana considers her among the pioneers that contributed to the development of Jordan thanks to “her dedication to the media and journalism empowerment.”
The Morocco-Jordan diplomatic ties have served as a leading example in the Arab-Arab relations, marked by several historic, strategic and special bonds.
Jordan has shown support to Morocco’s territorial integrity and became the third Arab country to open a consulate in Morocco’s southern provinces.
King Mohammed VI expressed his full solidarity and support with King Abdullah II decisions to ensure stability and security within the Jordanian territory.
With Algeria unilaterally severing diplomatic ties with Morocco, The kingdom of Jordan expressed its regret over and called for a dialogue to solve all disputes, in hopes of “consolidating the important role of both countries in joint Arab action.”
