Rabat – King Mohammed VI appointed today, October 17 Youssef Amrani as Morocco’s ambassador to the European Union (EU).
The appointment comes in accordance with the provisions of Article 49 of the constitution, a statement from the royal cabinet said today.
The statement emphasized that Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita and Head of Government Aziz Akhannoch recommended Amrani to represent Morocco as its ambassador to the EU.
Amrani held several positions at the foreign ministry, including as Rabat’s ambassador to South Africa since 2019.
Born in 1953 in Tangier, Amrani served in several positions, including State Secretary in charge of the Maghreb Union between 1989 and 1992 and Consul General in Barcelona between 1992 and 1996.
He also served as Morocco’s ambassador to Colombia, Chile, and Mexico.
The ambassador holds a BA in Economics from Mohammed V University of Rabat and a degree in management from the Boston University School of Management.
Amrani joined the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1978.
Between 2013 and 2018, Amrani was also a member of the royal cabinet.
