Rabat- The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMAs) have released the list of nominees ahead of the 2021 edition of the pan-African event set to take place in Lagos, Nigeria, from 19 to 21 November.

Eleven Moroccan artists are nominated for this year’s iteration of Africa’s finest gathering of musical artists and performers. Five Moroccans are competing in the Best Female Artist in North Africa category: Abir, Jaylan, Manal Benchlikha, Nada, and Salma Rachid.

Singer Abir is also competing for the “Best African Artist in the Diaspora” and “Best African Pop Artist, Duo or Group” awards, while Manal also aims to win both “Songwriter of the year” and best female artist in Northern Africa awards.

The 2021 AFRIMAs will put on display the beauty and diversity of African music and artistry.

“We believe we gave Africans and the world the very best nominations and songs in line with the 8880 songs received under the year in review,” Hadja Kobele, a member of the 13-member AFRIMAs international jury, said.

Competing for Best Male Artist in Northern Africa are Dizzy Dros, Hamza El Fadly, L7OR, Muslim, and Zouhair Bahaoui.

El Grande Toto, currently the hottest name on Morocco’s increasingly vibrant rap scene, is in competition with 9 other artists for the Most Promising African Artist award. The Casablanca rapper is the only Moroccan artist to be nominated in this category.

More than 400 songs from a wide pool of  artists from across Africa have been nominated in 30 continental and 10 regional categories, after AFRIMA’s 13-member international jury received a record 8,880 applicants for the 2021 edition.

Organized in collaboration with the African Union (AU), the event aims to celebrate African creativity and musical talents.  The event gives the best or most promising artists on the continent the spotlight that many of them need to expand their fan base and export their songs and cultures.

The 2021 AFRIMA Awards will be broadcast live on 84 Television channels in 109 countries from November 19 to 21. Since 2014, AFRIMA has been regarded as the ultimate promoter of African entertainment and musical creativity at the global level.
