Rabat – Direct flights between Canada and Morocco will resume next week, starting October 29, in light of the improving epidemiological situation in the north African country.
Canada’s government said that the decision is in line following recommendations from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).
The decision will be accompanied by “additional” health measures to counter any potential threats or challenges associated to COVID-19.
Both vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers are able to enter Canada if they provide proof of a negative PCR result.
The result needs to be authorized by the Canadian government and recognized by the European Commission.
Travelers must also perform the test 72 hours prior to their scheduled departure for Canada.
It is necessary for a traveller who has previously contracted the virus to also show evidence of a positive molecular test result for COVID-19, which is to be conducted within 14 to 180 days prior to the planned departure to Canada.
“Travelers who have stayed in Morocco for more than 14 days and who have had the infection during their stay must provide proof of a positive result in a molecular screening test for COVID-19, a result which must be documented in the certificate,” the Canadian government said.
In addition, passengers with a COVID-19 infection that occurred prior to their arrival in Morocco must provide documentation of their infection from a third country.
“Prior to boarding, airline operators will authenticate Moroccan COVID-19 PCR test certificates by scanning digital QR codes to verify and confirm passenger identity and test results prior to boarding,” the government added.
In August, Canada suspended all flights to and from Morocco, citing the importance of protecting its citizens and residents from the significant surge of COVID-19 cases and deaths that the North African country was experiencing at the time.
Morocco also takes similar measures if the COVID-19 situation deteriorates in another country.
Recently, Morocco suspended flights to and from Germany, the UK, and the Netherlands which will be effective until further notice.
