Rabat – Morocco placed third behind South Africa and Egypt at the 14th African swimming championship in Accra, Ghana, with a total win of 13 medals.
The Moroccan team won one gold, two silver, and 10 bronze medals on Sunday 17, the final day of the competition.
Swimmer Meryem Bahajoub won the second silver medal in the 200 meters butterfly, while Sawsane El Gamah won bronze in the 100m butterfly.
The Moroccan winners of the bronze medal in the 4×100 meters freestyle mixed relay were Garnoussi Sofia, Alaoui Inass, Rimi Jennate, Meryem Bahajoub, El Fallaki Ilyas, and Benhalima Hamza.
Hamza Benhalima won another bronze medal in the 200 meters medley.
He also secured Morocco’s only gold medal in the 50 meters backstroke category on the first day of the Swimming Championships.
Meanwhile the host country, Ghana, bagged two medals at the championship.
Around 50 countries took part in the African Swimming Championships.
The African Swimming Championships is a 7-day event held annually by the African Swimming Confederation (CANA).
Tunisia is set to host the 15th African Championship next year.
Founded in 1970, CANA aims to encourage and promote swimming and athlete development “to the highest level” through promoting healthy exercise and recruiting recreational swimmers to compete in various competitions.
