Jean-Claude Messant of the Royal Mansour Hotel in Marrakech has won the Excellence Award 2021 as Best General Manager in Africa. Given by the “Haute Grandeur Global Awards,” the prize recognizes overall excellence in the luxury hotel and spa industries worldwide.
Jean-Claude Messant has been involved in opening and repositioning many luxury hotels worldwide, building incredible experience and expertise in his field.
Previously director of the Saint James’s Hotel & Club in London, Hôtel Royal Barrière in Deauville in France, Le Fouquet’s and Hôtel de Crillon in Paris, and the Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo, Messant has been working as a general manager of the Royal Mansour Hotel in Marrakech since September 2014.
As a widely celebrated manager in his field, Messant is not only responsible for his team’s flawless technical performance, but also their capacity for warmth and empathy.
“My ideal is to create perfection, but to foster that human dimension, and make sure none of the staff, from butler to bartender, ever slips into autopilot when they are with guests,” he told Haute Grandeur Global Awards.
The Royal Mansour hotel comprises 53 individual riads, each with a courtyard, a living room, a bedroom, and a private rooftop terrace.
It also includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools, spas, and two restaurants: La Grande Table Marocaine and La Grande Table Française.
The hotel recently implemented an underground tunnel system which the staff, dressed as “genie-like butlers,” use to travel around the hotel unseen.
Royal Mansour has won many awards in recent years, cementing its status as one of the best hotels in Morocco, Africa, and worldwide.
In 2019, American luxury and lifestyle travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler ranked the Royal Mansour as the best hotel in Africa and the 6th best in the world.
Two years prior, Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Travel Award selected the Moroccan hotel as the best hotel spa in the world.
Marrakech is known as the capital of Morocco’s thriving tourism industry, with more than 2 million tourists visiting the city’s historic medina every year.
