Denver – Morocco’s Council of Ministers is scheduled to discuss the country’s 2022 finance bill during a meeting in Fez on Friday.
The Council of Ministers is responsible for planning and the “general orientations of the Finance Bill,” according to article 49 of the Moroccan constitution.
Friday’s meeting will be preceded by a working meeting in Rabat, where Head of Government Akhannouch will present his preliminary draft of the bill.
According to government regulations, the ministers have until October 20 to agree on a fiscal bill for next year. The financial legislation represents the first major objective for the new government to complete.
Ahead of Friday’s financial meeting, the government was also scheduled to hold a vote of confidence this Wednesday.
Following his party’s victory in Morocco’s latest elections and his own appointment as Head of Government, RNI head Aziz Akhannouch has made several pledges to implement economic reforms in “accordance with the royal vision” for the New Development Model.
After a decade of a PJD-controlled government, Akhannouch’s government represents the first real change for Morocco’s political body.
Among Akhannouch’s pledges are promises to expand social protection coverage in Morocco. The Akhannouch government’s proposed socio-economic development plan rests mainly on four pillars of focus.
The new government has stated that it will focus on the generalization of social support systems in the country to cement Morocco’s social welfare capabilities, the creation of an expanded welfare support system for Morocco’s most vulnerable populations, healthcare reform, and public education reform.
