Rabat – Morocco has fully vaccinated over 19,758,226 people as of Wednesday, October 6, while the number of first-dose-vaccinated people is now 22,953,940, according to the country’s health authorities.
On Monday, October 4, Morocco launched the administration of the third dose of vaccine, with the ministry of health projecting the continuation of the marked improvement the country’s COVID situation has seen in recent weeks.
As of this evening, Morocco has administered the “booster shot,” as the third dose is called, to 64,077 people.
Moroccan officials initially aimed to vaccinate 80% of their population, or 33 million people, by the end of the year when they launched their vaccination campaign in January.
While the projection appeared to be an ambitious goal given the global scramble for vaccines, and in light of the vaccine disparity between the Global South and developed countries, recent statistics show Morocco is well on its way to exceeding its original vaccination objectives.
While infection numbers are going down, the country continues to record new COVID infections.
Over the past 24 hours, Morocco recorded 727 COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 936,963.
It also recorded 18 deaths and 1,491 recoveries in the same period.
To date, 913,229 people have recovered from COVID-19 in Morocco, while the country’s death toll is 14,390.
There are currently 9,344 active COVID-19 cases in Morocco, including 717 people in critical conditions and 363 patients on ventilators.
Laboratories across the country carried out 13,346 COVID-19 tests in the past 24 hours, bringing to 8,853,903 the total number of tests performed in Morocco since the outbreak in March 2020.
The fatality rate within the country continues to stand at around 1.5% of the infected population. However, recovery rates have climbed to 97.5%.
The Casablanca-Settat region remains the most infected city in the country, with 273 new cases reported in the area, and 8 deaths.
The Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region follows in second with 243 new cases and 6 deaths, while Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima follows in third with 55 new cases, and 2 deaths.
Morocco’s national vaccination campaign has largely proven to be successful, as most children over the age of 12 have been vaccinated.
Following the positive developments in the national epidemiological situation, the Moroccan government announced the relaxation of its COVID restrictive measures on October 1.
