Bou Regreg NGO announced in a press release this week that Rabat’s twin-city of Sale is hosting this year the 14th edition of the International Women Film Festival between November 8-13.
“The festival has made its return yet again to support women’s cause,” the press release underscores. “The festival is coming back with an inclusive approach primarily oriented towards women and the youth given their critical importance in Morocco’s demographic makeup.”
The statement spoke of women constituting “half of Morocco’s youth,” and promised that the festival will mainly seek to promote gender equality and female empowerment.

“The festival has set off with a substantial dream. The festival’s aim is not to be a fleeting moment, rather it wishes to render women more than just an image on screens; rather, the festival aims to put women at the heart of the cinematic action, the heart of life,” it added.
The festival’s program is divided into 14 axes all centered around women’s agency in film making with various competitions for young actresses, female film directors, and screenwriters.
With Swiss cinema the special guest at this year’s International Women Film Festival, the event is set to commemorate 100 years of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Switzerland.
The festival program also includes commemoration events for key female figures of Moroccan cinema.
It will see women-made films of different nationalities competing for 10 awards, including the “Grand Festival Award,” the “Jury Award,” and “First Debut Award.”
